The presser foot holds fabric flat against the feed dog so every stitch is even. A bent, worn or wrong foot shows up as skipped stitches, puckering or fabric that drifts off the line.
Check three things before ordering: the machine type (single-needle lockstitch or overlock), the brand and model, and the shank style. A foot that looks right can still be the wrong fit for your machine.
Replace it if the sole is scratched or bent, the screw will not hold, or stitches skip even with a fresh needle and correct thread tension.
